Collecting 2016 NFL Draft Picks Football Cards – The first round selections of the 2016 NFL Draft are in the books. There were some last minute trades that resulted in some minor shuffling of several expert’s mock drafts. However, there were few, if any, real surprises.
The first two picks, as expected, were quarterbacks Jared Goff (Cal) selected first overall by the Los Angeles Rams, followed by Carson Wentz (North Dakota State) going to the Philadelphia Eagles. There is still some high-profile talent on the board including Heisman Trophy winner Derrick Henry.
A closer look at the draft results shows some interesting facts.
- Of the first 32 picks in this year’s draft, eight were offensive skill position players
- (3) Quarterbacks (Goff, Wentz, Lynch), (1) Running Back (Elliott), (4) Wide Receivers (Coleman, Fuller, Doctson, Treadwell)
- Seven offensive lineman were selected – (4) Tackles, (2) Guards, (1) Center
- Defensive secondary players took seven of the top 32 picks – (5) Cornerbacks, (2) Safeties
- Defensive lineman accounted for another seven picks – (4) Tackles, (3) Ends
- Ohio State had five players selected in the first round, including three players in the top ten.
- 3rd Overall – Joey Bosa, DE – San Diego Chargers
- 4th Overall – Ezekiel Elliott, RB – Dallas Cowboys
- 10th Overall – Eli Apple, CB – New York Giants
- 16th Overall – Taylor Decker, OT – Detroit Lions
- 20th Overall – Darron Lee, OLB – New York Jets
- Four wide receivers were selected, including three consecutively.
- 15th Overall – Corey Coleman (Baylor), Cleveland Browns
- 21st Overall – Will Fuller (Notre Dame), Houston Texans
- 22nd Overall – Josh Doctson (TCU), Washington Redskins
- 23rd Overall – Laquon Treadwell (Mississippi), Minnesota Vikings
Collecting 2016 NFL Draft Picks Football Cards
So how does all this translate to cardboard and these players first officially licensed NFL Trading Cards? Well for starters, collectors are, most likely, going to have to wait for the first football products to release after the NFL Rookie Premiere in late May before they are featured in their NFL uniforms.
For right now, the first licensed NFL trading cards of the majority of these players can be found in 2016 Score Football. However, they are still pictured in their collegiate uniforms.

Last night, at the NFL Draft in Chicago, IL., officials from Panini America were creating virtual, draft day trading cards for their digital app, Panini Gridiron.
