Future Watch: Anthony Mantha Hockey Rookie Cards, Red WingsFuture Watch: Anthony Mantha Hockey Rookie Cards, Red Wings – Anthony Mantha is not your typical 21st century prospect. Listed as 6′-5″, 214lbs, this fast skating right winger has all the tools and now the Detroit Red Wings have to wait for him to put it all together.

Developing into an NHL power forward can be a tough proposition. Often times the prospect is still growing into his body and coordinating size and speed can be a challenge. Now, at the age of 21, Mantha is just about ready to peak in terms of growth. Drafted 20th overall in 2013 the Detroit fan base has been seeing him light it up in the “Q” for Val-d’Our. In his last season there he amassed 120 points in 57 games.

In 2014-15 he played in 62 games in the AHL. He’d overcome a broken leg and still managed 15 goals and 33 points as a professional. In 2015-16 he had 21 goals and 45 points in 60 games plus 11 points in 9 playoff games with Grand Rapids. This past year he also got his NHL cup of coffee playing in 10 games netting 3 points.

This season he’ll get every opportunity to make the Red Wings out of camp. He’s still a very raw talent but he does possess a pro wrist shot and a knack for getting to the net. Sometimes he’s been a bit reckless, as rookies can be, but if he can reel it in a bit you’re looking at a future All-Star.

Here is a look at his draft day media comments in French and English (1:05 mark):

Currently 2016-17 Upper Deck MVP Hockey is the only product in which to find Anthony Mantha’s NHL licensed rookie card. However, he does have a redemption rookie card in 2015-16 Upper Deck Portfolio Hockey.

A tentative schedule of other early 2016-17 hockey card releases from Upper Deck are as follows:

This is a big year for this talented prospect. Let’s see what he looks like in a few weeks. My guess is he’ll make the big club and continue on from there. He may be a potential Calder candidate if it all clicks for him.
