Future Watch: Billy McKinney Rookie Baseball Cards, YankeesFuture Watch: Billy McKinney Rookie Baseball Cards, Yankees – Billy McKinney is a 6′-1″ outfielder who was selected 24th overall in the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft by the Oakland A’s. Already ranked in the top 100 prospects by some major outlets, he was traded to the Chicago Cubs in 2014 and then traded again, to the New York Yankees. This past July he was part of the Aroldis Chapman deal and now it seems like this prospect has finally found a home in the Big Apple.

Now 21 years old, he’s now had 1,484 at-bats in the minor leagues. His last stop was the AA Trenton Thunder where he slugged 3 home runs and drove in 13 in 35 games. He also scored 15 runs and added 7 doubles. It’s safe to say that he has the tools, including good speed, but he’s just waiting to put it all together. The Cubs were in a win-now situation, as they continue to battle to win it all. The Yankees are rebuilding so this is a perfect landing spot for the former Plano West Senior High School star.

Billy McKinney has a Bowman Chrome Prospect Autograph card (#CPA-BM) in 2016 Bowman Chrome Baseball. However, being a high-profile draft pick, he has cards dating all the way back to 2012 including a Bowman Perfect Game All-American Classic Autographed card.

According to his MLB.com draft profile:

McKinney should continue to hit because he has a smooth left-handed swing, outstanding hand-eye coordination, bat speed and an advanced approach. There’s some question as to how much power he’ll produce, but he barrels balls so easily that he should provide plenty of doubles with a peak of 18-20 homers per year. ETA 2017.

After suffering a fractured knee cap last August, he has made great strides in his recovery. The 205 pound player was the fifth ranked prospect in the Cubs organization before the trade. McKinney has been willing to learn all along and now he’s getting much closer to realizing his dream, which could see him playing at Yankee Stadium in the near future.
