Future Watch: Deshaun Watson Rookie Football Cards, Texans – Deshaun Watson was selected by the Houston Texans with the 12th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft. Coming off a stellar career with the Clemson Tigers, he had a lot to prove if he was going to be the starting quarterback for Houston this season.

In 2014, he was voted All-ACC. He threw for 1,466 yards with 14 touchdowns against just two interceptions. At that point, he was starting to set some school records.

In 2015, he won the Davey O’Brien and Manning Award as the best quarterback in the country. He was the first in school history to win both awards. He was a first team All-American and had a ton of other accolades. He was the first player in FBS history to pass for 4,000 yards and run for 1,000.

In 2016, he was a Heisman finalist. He repeated on the O’Brien and Manning awards and added the Unitas Award as the top passing graduating quarterback in the nation. He had 5,219 yards of total offense and he was the MVP of the Fiesta Bowl.

Coming into training camp the Texans top quarterback was supposed to be Tom Savage. The more Watson played the more pressure he put on the front office to be named the #1 guy.

Savage started the first game against the Cincinnati Bengals. After he had a bad first half. He was replaced by Watson. His first series in the NFL was a 14-play touchdown drive. He threw for 125 yards, ran for 67 yards and one touchdown, a 49-yard run. Not bad as his team got the win on the road.

In his second game against Jacksonville, he was 12-23 and 105 yards passing with one rushing touchdown. This time his team got the loss. He’s still learning on the job but Watson could be a star in the making.
