Future Watch: Deshone Kizer, Rookie Football Cards, Browns – Deshone Kizer was selected 52nd overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2017 NFL Draft. A lot of NFL fans and collectors are used to high-profile players being first round picks but Kizer seems to be the exception since he was named the Browns’ starter for this season.

In 2015, the young quarterback pulled in the Offensive Newcomer of the Year award. That year he had a 63% completion percentage with 21 touchdowns against 10 interceptions, playing for the Fightin’ Irish of Notre Dame. In 2016, he improved that to 26 touchdowns against nine interceptions.

Kizer set numerous records during his time with Notre Dame including, most rushing yards in a game by a quarterback (143) and the single-season rushing touchdown record by a quarterback (10).

Hailing from Toledo, Ohio, this athlete played on the basketball and baseball teams besides football. Playing may be an understatement because he excelled in those sports as well. In baseball, he led Central Catholic to a conference championship with a big double and RBI in the title game as a junior. He returned to play as a senior. Many think he could have been selected in the MLB Amateur Draft if he expressed further interest in the sport. In basketball, he was the league player of the year during his senior campaign.

Here’s a look at him at his first Browns practice:

Kizer has played in all three preseason games. He has one touchdown and one interception. His longest pass play was for 52 yards. He was sacked five times and that’s something the young quarterback will have to battle all season with a rebuilding Browns roster.

Deshone Kizer already has some great autographed rookie cards in the market. As a skill position player and top draft pick, collectors can be assured to find NFL licensed rookie cards of Kizer in the complete portfolio of 2017 Panini NFL football card products during the 2017-18 NFL season.

He runs like a running back and already has a running touchdown in the preseason. His long is 12 yards and he’s averaging 5.9 per carry. If he does that 4-5 times a game that could open things up downfield for him. Collectors should keep their eye on this dual threat.
