Future Watch: Dylan Larkin Hockey Rookie Cards, Detroit Red Wings In this day and age, players are getting more NHL opportunities at a younger and younger age. Detroit Red Wings prospect, Dylan Larkin is one of those players. After skating for one year at the University of Michigan he turned pro last season and joined Grand Rapids of the AHL just in time for a playoff run. As a 19-year-old he had 5 points in 6 games.

Before that, Larkin starred for Team USA in the World Junior Championships and had a better tournament than Jack Eichel. Grant it, he’s older, but he was still  the best player on the team. He had an impressive five goals and seven points in just five contests.

The 6-1,190 pound center has terrific speed and is strong on the puck. He amassed 47 points in just 35 games in college. It’s rare that a freshman can be that dominant but he was just that. He is the next big star for the Red Wings. Now all he needs is playing time.

Blessed with a will to win, great hockey I.Q. and tremendous stickhandling, there’s not a lot this player can’t do on the ice. One thing he doesn’t have is a professional licensed trading card. He has a Michigan team card but so far nothing else. That will change this season for sure.

At the very least he will be included in Upper Deck’s AHL set at some point in the season but the most likely scenario is he gets inserted into one of the early hockey products after the season starts. Probably not Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey but something after that. The good news is he has some cards in the 2014 ITG Draft Prospects set. The current selling prices of his cards on eBay are clearly an indication of his popularity. Even his aforementioned college card, which is not autographed, contains no memorabilia and isn’t even serial numbered, sells for $20.

When the 2015 season opens, keep an eye out for him and jump on his first rookie cards.
