Future Watch: Garrett Braxton Rookie Baseball Cards, MarlinsFuture Watch: Garrett Braxton Rookie Baseball Cards, Marlins – Garrett Braxton was selected with the seventh overall pick by the Miami Marlins in the 2016 MLB Amateur Draft. He’s a left-handed starter who starred at Florence High School in Northwestern Alabama.

At 19-years old, this top prospect has been ranked 76th overall by Baseball America and yet he’s not pitched in a spring training game. They’re bringing him along slowly. Last year he pitched in the instructional league and this year he’ll probably end up in Low-A ball.

Like many young pitchers, he’s an innings count type of pitcher. The Marlins have a lot invested in the prospect so fans will have to wait a little bit longer to start seeing him pitch in games again.

At 6′-3″ and just under 200 pounds he has the right frame to be a successful starting pitcher in major league baseball someday. He’s been a mainstay in USA baseball and that should continue for many years to come.

Garrett Braxton’s first Bowman autograph cards were released last year in both 2016 Bowman Draft and 2016 Bowman’s Best. He also has autographed cards in both 2015 and 2016 baseball card sets from Panini and Leaf including 2015 Panini USA Baseball, 2016 Panini Elite Extra Edition and 2016 Leaf Metal Draft, to name a few.

According to his MLB.com draft profile:

Alabama’s best prep pitching prospect since Kasey Kiker went 12th overall to the Rangers in 2006, Garrett helped Team USA win the 18U World Cup in Japan in September. He has been better than ever this spring, impressing a throng of scouts with a shutout at the National High School Invitational in March en route to posting a 0.53 ERA and with 131 strikeouts in 65 1/3 innings for Florence High. Despite some signability concerns, the Marlins selected Garrett with the seventh overall pick and then lured him away from a Vanderbilt commitment with an above-slot, $4,145,900 bonus. ETA 2020.

Here’s a look at his impressive pitching mechanics:

Marlins fans and collectors will soon see this pitcher get on the bump. He has all the tools and now he’s going to break in slowly in hopes of being a dominant major league pitcher for years to come.
