Future Watch: Jake Guentzel Rookie Hockey Cards, Predators – Jake Guentzel was selected with the 77th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft. At the time, many thought he could have gone earlier based on his offensive ability but he probably dropped because he was 5′-9″ and 150 pounds at the time. He was the USHL Rookie of the Year but he was smallish for even that league at that time.

Like with many prospects he grew two inches and has put on 30 pounds since then. When Central Scouting had him listed as the 80th most talented player in North America they didn’t know he was going to grow.

He always had great speed and now he can fight through the opposing defense when necessary. He gets to play on a line with Sidney Crosby and the rest is history. So far in the Stanley Cup playoffs he has 13 goals and 20 points. Those numbers are significant since he’s one goal off the all-time playoff rookie goal record. He has the most goals in the playoffs for any player and only Crosby and Evgeni Malkin have more points. The Penguins struck gold with this pick, plain and simple.

Jake Guentzal, a former NCAA star has rookie cards in 2016-17 SP Authentic that are red hot. This is particularly true of his Future Watch autographed card which is currently his only signed card in the market. He also has a Young Guns update plus rookie cards in both Ice and O-Pee-Chee. His Young Guns rookie is currently soaring for good reason as well.

Guentzel scored his first NHL goal on his first-ever shot.

The Woodbury, Minnesota native had 33 points in 40 games this season. He wasn’t a Calder Candidate and won’t be winning the award as a result. The impact he’s had on the 2016-17 season is far greater than that award currently. Needing just two wins to hoist Lord Stanley takes precedence. Considering he started the season in the AHL the 22-year-old must feel pretty fortunate right about now.
