Future Watch: Karl-Anthony Towns Basketball Rookie Cards, Minnesota Timberwolves – The athletic 6’11”, 250lb center out of the University of Kentucky, was the number one overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. A native of the Dominican Republic, a country known more for its breeding of baseball players, has had his share of naysayers since NBA Draft Day this past June.
But don’t let the anti-hype fool you. Towns has everything necessary to be a not only a reliable player but a cornerstone of the Timberwolves franchise for years to come. He runs the floor like few people his size can, he can shoot facing the basket, has an nearly impossible to defend hook shot, he is a gifted passer who can rack up ten assists in a quarter and, maybe most importantly, he is a team first player.
The list of Towns’ achievements and hardware he has accumulated in his young career, certainly put him in some elite company. He was named the 2015 SEC Freshman of the Year as well a being named to the first team All-SEC , a McDonald’s All-American, and the 2014 Gatorade Player of the Year and Athlete of the Year.
His statistics at Kentucky last year don’t even come close to reflecting Towns’ on court ability. He was the victim of Coach John Calipari running his bench like hockey shifts.
Panini America’s first scheduled basketball release for the 2015-16 NBA season is Hoops. The company provided a couple images of Karl-Anthony Towns’ rookie basketball cards when they released the product solicitation (click for product details) last month. 2015-16 Panini NBA Hoops Basketball is scheduled to make its debut on Wednesday, October 14th, 2015.
For now, collectors will have to chase down one of Karl-Anthony Towns’ several pre-rookie cards released by Panini for the 2015 National Sports Collectors Convention.
