Future Watch: Nate Smith Rookie Baseball Cards, AngelsFuture Watch: Nate Smith Rookie Baseball Cards, Angels – Looking to collect a pitching prospect with a lot of upside? Meet Nate Smith, a talented pitcher who the Angels selected in the 8th round of the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft. Now 24, the 6′-3″, 210 pound left hander had a combined 10-8 record last season in the minors in just over 137 innings.

Currently with the Salt Lake City Bees of the Pacific Coast League the Spokane, Washington native has gotten off to a nice start in AAA with a record of 6-3 and a 3.98 ERA. This in a league known for home runs and offense.

Some scouts have him ranked as the Angels third best prospect and for good reason. He was just chosen to pitch for in the upcoming MLB Futures Game for Team U.S. The game is played Sunday of All-Star Weekend.

Smith has developed a thick skin and has heard some criticism of the farm system that he’s a part of, some say it’s the weakest in baseball, and yet he doesn’t let that bother him. That’s a big part of being a professional.

Here’s a good look at this talented starter:

His Chrome Prospect Autograph (CPA-NS) in 2016 Bowman Baseball is the pre-rookie card to look for of this up-and-comer.

According to his MLB.com draft profile:

Smith doesn’t have overpowering stuff but makes up for it with an advanced understanding of pitching. He has an easy delivery and throws strikes with all of his pitches. His fastball sits around 90 mph and he mixes in a solid changeup and two breaking balls. ETA 2016.

He has September call-up written all over him right now. His progression has been solid, he has some age to him, he’s being recognized for his work. The next step is playing for the Angels late this year or possibly next year.
