Future Watch: Nick Cousins Rookie Hockey Cards, Flyers –  Nick Cousins is a very talented pivot in the Philadelphia Flyers organization. Right now he’s playing for their AHL affiliate in Lehigh Valley, but he has played 15 games, with two cups of coffee so far with the big club.

At the age of 22 he will have played well over 150 professional games and he is improving as a scorer and an all-around player. In his first 64 games this season he’s popped in 22 goals. That doubles last years total already so could next year be his year?

Flyers General Manager Ron Hextall has been letting his prospects get more seasoning in the minors than the Flyers used to give their players and it’s paying dividends. Cousins, already a terrific skater, can now play a better defensive game and he has that ability to be a pest on the ice. He will take penalties but he can draw them as well. That’s another reason the Flyers haven’t traded him up to this point.

He was the 68th overall pick in 2011. Most players have a development curve like this rather than a Dylan Larkin who just stepped right into the NHL as a rookie. His offseason conditioning will be a big key for him and if he doesn’t get traded he will get every opportunity to become a National Hockey League regular.

Fans can chase his rookies in a lot of sets including Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey, Artifacts, SP Game-Used and Trilogy. He’s a good player to get and hold on to.

Here’s a look at a Cousins hat trick:

Here’s an in-depth interview with him:

Some players start to figure it out around 23-25. Cousins could be one of those players.
