Future Watch: Petr Straka Rookie Hockey Cards, Flyers – Petr Straka was drafted in the second round of the 2010 NHL Draft by the Columbus Blue Jackets. They never signed him to an entry-level contract. Since that time, the Philadelphia Flyers have signed him to two contracts, the most recent being a one-year deal.

The talented Czech had a terrific junior career. Including a nice run playing internationally and now three years with Lehigh Valley, the Flyers AHL Affiliate. This is a crucial juncture in the young prospect’s career. The 2016-17 season could prove to be a make it or break it year. Now, at 24 years of age and plenty of experience, the Flyers are anxious to see him finally challenge for a starting spot on the big club’s NHL roster. Or, at the very least, be the kind of winger who warrants a call-up when injuries occur.

Last season he had 19 goals in 64 games. It’s his highest total since turning professional. At an even 6′, 185 pounds he has a pro body and plays a physical game. This also allows him to create his own scoring chances. These are some of the reasons the Flyers re-signed him.

During the 2014-15 season he managed to play three games for the Flyers, scoring two points. Unfortuantely for Straka, at that time, there was no permanent roster spot available. Last season, he was leap-frogged by some other players. Looking at the upcoming 2016-17 season, he could make the team out of training camp if he manages to play his best and then continues to do that in preseason games.

Petr Straka has several NHL licensed rookie cards. One of his most popular being his  Young Guns card from 2015-16 Upper Deck Series 2 Hockey. He also has rookie cards in 2015-16 Upper Deck MVP Hockey,  2015-16 UD NHL ICE2015-16 O-Pee-Chee and 2015-16 SP Authentic, as well.

Here’s Straka showing off his tougher side:

Flyers fans have had Straka on their radar for a long time. They’ve been rooting for him to make the team. He’s fun to watch out on the ice. Let’s see what happens next.
