Future Watch: Sebastian Aho Rookie Hockey Cards, Hurricanes – Sebastian Aho may have been the best surprise in the 2016-17 NHL season. He had a strong rookie campaign for the Carolina Hurricanes. Nobody is going to say it came out of nowhere, but they would say it has come ahead of schedule.

Carolina selected Aho with the 35th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. At that time, I knew the Hurricanes got a bargain. Aho has elite skills and the only question about him was his size. At 5′-11″ he plays bigger. The minute you see his speed and stick skills on the ice you immediately forget about his size. His durability was a nice surprise as well. He played all 82 games this season.

Last season he played overseas in Finland. During that time, he starred for his country in the World Junior Championships. In that tournament, he was voted one of the top 3 players on his gold medal winning team. He followed that up later that year with a silver medal in the World Championships, a tournament that mostly veteran NHLers play in. Lately there have been some exceptional young players picked for those teams and he was one of them.

Back to the 2016-17 campaign, he had 24 goals and 25 assists. If this particular rookie class wasn’t the deepest in the last decade, he would have gotten more notoriety as far as being a Calder candidate or being voted to the rookie All-Star squad.

Here’s a look at his elite passing and scoring touch:

Look for his 2016-17 SP Authentic Future Watch Autograph card as well as well as his Young Guns rookie card from Upper Deck. Sebastian Aho also has rookie cards in several other current year products including SPx and Trilogy.

I don’t expect this right winger to have a sophomore slump. We do have to remember that he’s only 19 but the best is yet to come for this future star.
