Hot in the Shop – New Releases 10/26/2015 – A Football Faceoff – Some key products are hitting the market this week. Among them are a football release day battle between Panini Playbook and Topps Finest, two very popular trading card brands. First, some news and notes from the hobby and the world of sports.
For those who have not yet heard the big news from last week, initial details were leaked regarding the future of NFL trading cards. Starting in 2016, Panini America will be the exclusive trading card manufacturer of NFL licensed trading cards. Topps 60-year run, as an NFL trading card manufacturer will officially come to an end. The news took many by surprise. An official statement by Panini America or the NFL has not yet been released. Stay tuned to GoGTS.net for the latest as events regarding this hobby bombshell transpire.
The World Series starts tomorrow with a match-up of David vs. Goliath as the Kansas City Royals battle the New York Mets in the Fall Classic. The popularity of New York Mets’ slugger Daniel Murphy’s trading cards are trending sharply upward as a result of his October heroics.
Major contenders for the NCAA Football National Championship suffered big losses this weekend. Undefeated Florida State was dealt a severe blow as a last second, game-winning field-goal attempt was blocked by Georgia Tech and returned for a touchdown handing the Seminoles their first loss of the season.
Number two ranked Baylor lost a significant impact player to injury. Quarterback Seth Russell suffered a broken bone in his neck and his future availability is in question. Russell was the key to Baylor’s high-octane offense.
