Hot in the Shop – New Releases 11/9/2015 – Contenders Baseball! – The hobby was a cause for celebration this weekend as hockey fans and collectors flocked to the Toronto Sports Card Expo. Timed with the release of Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey, the well attended event was a bustle of activity as #CollectConnor mania was clearly evident by accounts on social media of the activity at the Upper Deck booth. Adding to this evidence came word from Upper Deck that the company has completely sold out of all versions of 2015-16 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey in both hobby and retail.
In sports news, this weekend was marked by plenty of drama in NASCAR, NCAA and NFL Football. Matt Kenseth continues his crusade against NASCAR officials after being banned for two races. The suspension was the result of a retaliation incident that took him out of Sprint Cup contention a couple of weeks ago.
For the first time in several years, three teams in the NFL are 8-0; the Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots and the Cincinnati Bengals all remain undefeated. The previously undefeated Denver Broncos lost to the lowly Indianapolis Colts, who in turn, had knocked off previously undefeated Green Bay last week.
The college football rankings saw a shift at number one for the first time all season. Clemson overtook Ohio State atop the rankings. Both teams remain undefeated. Joining the top four was Alabama, who at 7-1 overtook several undefeated teams based on their strength of schedule.
Despite the calendar saying winter is just around the corner, this week’s releases are highlighted by several baseball products including an absolutely loaded edition of Contenders Baseball from Panini.
