2020 Industry Summit Day Two Recap: Isiah Thomas, BIG Money in Modern, Fanatics – Like many other conventions and tradeshows in the COVID-era, this year’s Industry Summit is taking place online as a virtual event. Hosted by Beckett Media, the annual B2B tradeshow for the hobby industry is an opportunity for store owners, dealers and breakers to meet with manufactures and service providers.
Day two kicked-off with a presentation by Arcane Tinman, the manufacturer of the new Beckett Shield line of trading card supplies.
This was followed by keynote speaker, NBA Hall of Famer, Isiah Thomas who was coming off the bench for scheduled speaker Jamal Mashburn who fell ill unexpectedly. Isiah provided great insight into the hobby from the athlete perspective. He also was very transparent with details about his humble beginnings on Chicago’s west side to the man he is today.
There were several informative panel discussions throughout the day. One of the most well-attended was titled, Surging Modern Card Market. It was chaired by Ken Goldin of Goldin Auctions, Jason Koonce and StockX founder Josh Luber.
Also garnering a high-level of interest was the Panini product development panel. It was loaded with talent and included Rob Springs, Ben Ecklar, David Porter and was moderated by Tracy Hackler. The guests provided insight into the challenges the product development team faced during the pandemic, favorite products, thoughts on the future and much more.
The Fanatics presentation provided insight into how the company serves as a gateway for fans to become collectors. In that capacity they can help serve as an entry-point to the hobby.
