Dansby SwansonDansby Swanson 2015 Bowman Draft Future Watch, Diamondbacks – Dansby Swanson was a first round selection in the 2015 MLB Draft as the 1st overall pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks. He’s an original. He has the kind of name that comes up first in a Google search and by now he’s used to being selected first.

The Marietta, Georgia native is a right-handed hitting shortstopSwanson is a an all-around hitter with a good understanding of the strike zone. His has the defensive skills to play shortstop at the big league level. Expect to see him debut sometime in the 2018 MLB season.

He became a star at Vanderbilt University. He’s just the second NCAA shortstop to be selected first overall. The other being Bill Almon in 1974 when the San Diego Padres selected him. Although he was a major leaguer, Swanson didn’t have the bar set particularly high by Almon, and as a result, Swanson could really be a trailblazer.

Vanderbilt had two other top-25 selections. That has only happened on three other occasions and the first time since Rice had that happen in 2004.

Swanson won most Outstanding Player honors in 2014 en route to a College World Series victory over Virginia in Omaha, Nebraska. It was the first in school history. Swanson played second base at the time and hit .323 in the series. He drove in 2 runs, scored five and had 3 stolen bases. They did make it all the way back in 2015 but lost to Virginia in a deciding Game 3.

Danby Swanson’s first MLB licensed autographed baseball card will debut as card number BCA-DS with the release of 2015 Bowman Draft Baseball.

Listen to the ping of his sweet contact and watch his great hands in the field as well.
