He has won three single-seater championships in a row since 2019. Those included back-to-back Formula 3 and Formula 2 titles – a feat achieved only by Charles Leclerc and George Russell.

Piastri began his racing career competing in go-karting events throughout Australia. Piastri’s talent was quickly recognized, and he soon began to make a name for himself in the world of junior motorsport. In 2019, he won the Formula Renault Eurocup championship, securing seven victories and eleven podium finishes during the season.

In 2020, Piastri stepped up to the highly competitive Formula 3 Championship, and once again showed his talent by winning the title in his rookie season. He won three races and secured four podium finishes en route to the championship.

In 2021, Piastri won the Formula 2 Championship, the final step on the ladder to F1, racing for the Prema Racing team and winning six races.

During 2021 Piastri was also part of the Alpine Academy, the driver development program of the Alpine Formula 1 team. Despite that, he found himself the reserve driver for the F1 team in 2022. This was a frustrating time for Piastri, as he expected to be on the grid following his previous years’ successes.

Despite being promoted to the Alpine Formula 1 race team for the 2023 season, Piastri declined the offer. Instead, he controversially signed with McLaren. This highlights how highly Piastri is regarded. He replaced fellow Australian Daniel Ricciardo, one of the most successful drivers on the grid.
