Future Watch: Alek Thomas Rookie Baseball Cards, DiamondbacksFuture Watch: Alek Thomas Rookie Baseball Cards, Diamondbacks – Alek Thomas was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the second round of the 2018 MLB Draft. He was a three-sport athlete; playing quarterback in football and a point guard in basketball. His dad, Allen, is the strength and conditioning coach for the Chicago White Sox.

Besides training with his dad when he can, he played for two teams in rookie ball in 2018. In 123 at-bats he had three doubles, five triples, 10 RBI with a .325 batting average. His eight steals and .394 OBP. After that, he moved on to finish out the year with the Missoula Osprey, also in rookie ball. In 123 at-bats there he hit 11 doubles, one home run, two triples and 17 RBI with a .341 batting average.

In 2019, he started out playing for the Kane County Cougars in A-ball. Thomas finished out the season with the Visalia Rawhide. The center fielder had 447 at-bats, the speedster smacked 23 doubles, seven triples, 10 home runs, and 55 RBI while hitting .300 and 15 steals combined.

According to his MLB.com Prospect Profile:

Thomas has proved to be one of the best prep hitters from his Draft class. He sends line drives to all fields with his compact left-handed stroke, impressive bat speed and mature approach at the plate. Though he’s not very physical, his feel for the barrel and sneaky pop should produce at least 12-15 homers per year, not to mention plenty of doubles and triples. Thomas enhances his plus speed with good instincts on the bases and in center field. While he has below-average arm strength, it’s playable in center field. ETA 2022.

Here is a look at him taking hacks:

Alek Thomas‘ first baseball cards were produced by Leaf Trading Cards in the company’s 2017 Perfect Game All-American product. Some of his most popular cards are his Chrome Autographs from 2018 Bowman Draft. He also has autographs in 2019 products including Bowman Chrome, Pro Debut and Heritage Minor League, to name a few.

Additionally, Thomas has autographs in other baseball card products from Leaf (Flash, Valiant) and Panini (Contenders Draft Picks, Elite Extra Edition), again, to name a few

At 19, you’re looking at a potential star. He might not be a big bopper but he has all the tools to be an exciting player for many years to come.
