Future Watch: Amir Garrett Rookie Baseball Cards, RedsFuture Watch: Amir Garrett Rookie Baseball Cards, RedsAmir Garrett was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 22nd round of the MLB Amateur Draft. Having been in the minors since 2012 his timeframe making it to the show is pretty immediate.

He’s tossed 634 innings combined giving up 564 hits while striking out 566 batters. His WHIP is 1.32 and his ERA is 4.64 with 30 wins. It hasn’t been pretty, but it’s been a learning experience. He’s only 25 and the fact that he’s 6-5, 228 pounds is a big reason the Reds still believe in him.

According to his MLB.com draft profile.

Garrett pitched in the 2015 Futures Game in what he hopes will be his home ballpark, then capped off the season with a playoff masterpiece. He pitches mainly off of his fastball, which he’ll throw in the 91-96 mph range. Garrett’s slider can be inconsistent, sometimes flashing plus, sometimes looking fringy, but it should be at least Major League average in the future. His changeup has improved, though he throws it too hard at times. Garrett uses his size well, coming at hitters with excellent extension. Very physical, he is an outstanding athlete on the mound and his command continues to improve.

Here’s a look at him striking out 12!

Garrett had a hip procedure in the offseason. He’s been pitching in spring training but not as a starter. After throwing two scoreless against the Angels he lowered his spring ERA to 2.00 with a 0.078 WHIP. He’s getting ready for his first start and if that goes well he has an excellent chance at making the team.

Collectors can get his 2017 Bowman Chrome autographed rookie card.

His velocity is up, and the important numbers are down. The Reds have a few starters who are injured so he has his chance to step up. Everything is breaking right for him so collecting him now before he starts to rise may be the answer.
