Future Watch: Antonio Callaway Rookie Football Cards, Browns
Antonio Callaway was selected by the Cleveland Browns with the 105th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Once thought to be a first-round talent, troubles off the field dropped him in the draft.
The talented wide receiver played his football at Florida. In his first season there he was named an All-American as a return specialist as a true freshman. The talent is undeniable. He ended the 2015 season as the team’s leading receiver as well with 35 catches for 678 yards and four touchdowns; One of them a 63-yarder.
Off the field issues got him suspended for the entire 2016 season. He and another teammate violated the teams’ code of conduct policy. In December of 2016, Callaway announced he would be entering the NFL Draft.
At 5-11, 200, he ran a 4.41, 40-yard dash at the combine. His vertical jump was 34 inches and his standing broad jump was 121 inches. He may have been the most talented receiver in the draft, but he failed a drug test at the combine.
In his first game with the Browns, he never caught a pass. In his second game, against the Saints, he had 3 catches for 81 yards and a touchdown. Now that he’s shown that he can play in this league, his coach, Hue Jackson, is hoping he can replace the recently departed Josh Gordon.
Here’s a look at him in action:
Callaway will soon be on everybody’s radar. He could be a threat to win the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award if he can continue to improve weekly as a player. This speedy wide receiver could be exactly what the Browns have needed to start winning more games as well. Don’t sleep on this one.
