Future Watch: Austin Gomber Rookie Baseball Cards, CardinalsFuture Watch: Austin Gomber Rookie Baseball Cards, Cardinals –  Austin Gomber was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the fourth round of the 2014 MLB Amateur Draft. This 6′-5″, 235 pound lefty already has 54 minor league games under his belt.

This past season while playing for the Palm Beach Cardinals in Advanced A he had a record of 6-8 and a 2.93 ERA in 17 starts. In just over 107 innings he had 101 strikeouts. His stellar 1.07 WHIP has certainly opened up some eyes. With his current combined record at 24-13 this prospect could be on the fast track.

Austin Gomber has a Chrome Prospect Autograph card in 2016 Bowman Chrome Baseball, card# BCAP-AG.

He also has cards from previous years including 2014 Panini Prizm Perennial Draft Picks, 2014 Bowman Draft Baseball and 2014 Panini Elite Extra Edition Baseball.

According to his MLB.com draft profile:

Gomber’s best pitch is his changeup, which features tumble and which he throws with deceptive arm speed. He sets it with an 87-92 mph fastball that’s more notable for its running life than its velocity. He shows some aptitude for back-footing his slider against right-handers but it’s often a slurvy pitch. Gomber has good body control for a 6-foot-5 pitcher and uses his size to deliver his pitches on a steep downhill plane. ETA 2018

Currently, Gomber is playing in the Arizona Fall League. That’s a good way to cap off a solid year of development. He started the season just outside the top 10 prospects in the organization so starting next season he should be in there.

Here’s a look at his jerky pitching motion:

In the end, if you don’t have top speed, mechanics and arm angles can help you. His jerky motion clearly makes it hard for the opposing batters to see what’s coming next. These are a few of the reasons as to why this pitcher has the right stuff. Fans should look for him in 2017 spring training to see just how close he is.
