Future Watch: Brian Rodriguez Soccer Cards, Los Angeles FC / UD Almeria – It is a good time to take a second look at LAFC winger Brian Rodriguez. The talented Uruguayan was recently loaned out to Spanish second division side UD Almeria, a club looking to cement a promotion spot back up to La Liga. The loan will last through the rest of the 2020-21 season, with LAFC saying that the loan becomes a permanent move if “certain performance thresholds are met.”
This is an interesting moves for all sides. For Rodriguez, the 20-year old gets to try to reignite his goal scoring ways and possibly find himself in one of the best leagues in the world if he can help win promotion.
If the transfer becomes permanent, LAFC looks more and more like a club who can help young talent progress in their career. And they would have a Designated Player spot freed up as well.
For UD Almeria, it is a great situation. They take a chance on Rodriguez via a loan first. There is likely not a lot of risk in this deal for them. Most importantly, they get a player with tremendous potential and talent. Needless to say, the arrival of Rodriguez was met open-armed by fans, including one YouTuber:
The young man can attack, and then attack some more. He had excellent vision and an insatiable desire to take on defenders one-v-one. He is good with either foot going forward and is more than willing to help bring his teammates into the offense (Rodriguez finished this past MLS season with 7 assists in 19 appearances). The goals will need to come more consistently (he had two this season) but that likely will happen.
Rodriguez is already looked upon as a solid contributor for his national side, even at such a young age. When things really begin to click for him at the club level, I will not be surprised. There is just so much potential within his game and skillset.
