Future Watch: Casey Mize Rookie Baseball Cards, TigersCasey Mize was drafted by the Detroit Tigers with the first overall pick in the 2018 MLB Amateur Draft. The 6-3, 220-pound pitcher started carving out his way at Auburn University.

In 2016, he appeared in 16 games as a freshman going 2-5 with a 3.59 ERA. It was a start.

In 2017, he appeared in 13 games, 12 of them were starts and he shined with an 8-2 record and 2.04 ERA with 109 strikeouts and just nine walks!

That summer he played for the Team USA national collegiate team and he was named the opening day starter in 2018. That season he threw a no-hitter, the ninth in school history.

Last season he started out pitching a few games in rookie ball and ending his season playing for the Lakeland Flying Tigers in the Florida State League in advanced A-ball.

Here’s a look at this hurler in action:

According to his MLB.com draft profile:

Mize gets swings and misses with three different pitches, the best of which is a mid-80s splitter that dives at the plate. He sets it up with a 92-97 mph fastball that he commands exceptionally well despite its running life. His mid-80s slider took a step forward this spring, consistently grading as a plus offering, and he also has developed the ability to turn it into a harder cutter when he desires. ETA 2020.

Collectors can get his 2018 Bowman Draft autographed card.

His season ended with four starts for Lakeland. He pitched 11.2 innings and struck out 10 in the process. The rest doesn’t matter because he was just getting his feet wet and they shut his season down due to an innings count. At 21, he’s the Tigers #1 prospect and should be on every collectors’ radar right now.
