Future Watch: Chad Kuhl Rookie Baseball Cards, PiratesFuture Watch: Chad Kuhl Rookie Baseball Cards, Pirates – Chad Kuhl was selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 9th round of the 2013 MLB Amateur Draft. Born in Bear, Delaware he attended the University of Delaware becoming an instant hometown favorite. While with the Blue Hens, the talented pitcher had a solid 33-23 record. In 2013 he earned All-CAA honors by posting a 10-2 record in 15 starts!

He had a good year in AAA playing for the Indianapolis Indians. He was 6-3 with a 2.37 ERA. He walked just 16 batters in 83 ⅔ innings. He was called up a few different times during that season to start for the Pirates. With Pittsburgh he was 5-4 with a 4.20 ERA in 14 starts. He pitched just over 70 innings so that’s something he can build on for next season.

The right-hander has a pitch that many don’t posses. He has a power sinker that can top out just over 92 miles per hour. He’s not a strikeout an inning guy but he is a guy who can get key strikeouts at key times and with decent control that can get better. These days you don’t want to put too many runners on base. There are less and less intentional walks and pitching around certain batters has been cut down a lot.

Chad Kuhl has Bowman Chrome Prospect Autograph card, #BCAP-CK in 2016 Bowman Chrome Baseball. Currently, it’s his only MLB licensed autograph card. He does however have base rookie cards in 2016 Topps Heritage High Number and 2016 Topps Update Series Baseball.

According to his MLB.com draft profile:

Kuhl’s bread and butter is his heavy sinking fastball, which he’ll throw in the 90-95 mph range and get a lot of groundballs. While his secondary stuff is behind his fastball, the Pirates saw im-provement in his slider, which can get slurvy at times, and his changeup. He’s smart and very athletic on the mound, allowing him to repeat his delivery and throw strikes.

The 6′-3″ starter should be on the Pirates opening day staff in 2017.
