Future Watch: Clyde Edwards-Helaire Football Cards, Chiefs – When you win the Super Bowl is it still possible to nail it in the draft knowing you’ll be picking last? Well, the Kansas City Chiefs may have done just that when they drafted Clyde Edwards-Helaire 32nd overall in the 2020 NFL Draft.
At 5-7, 206 pounds, this Baton Rouge, Louisiana native was a star running back at Catholic High School. He was the first freshman in 29-years to actually get playing time. They take their football very seriously there. As a senior, he carried the rock 58 times, gaining 496 yards with 10 touchdowns. In the State-Championship game he caught 8 passes for 161 yards, 88 on the ground and a touchdown. His team won the game and he walked away with the MVP Trophy.
He committed to LSU, his hometown school, and joined his high school teammate, Derrius Guice, who currently plays for the Washington Redskins. With LSU he played as a true freshman as well. During his three years playing for the Tigers he rushed for 2,103 yards on 370 carries while scoring 23 touchdowns. In 2019 he earned First-Team All-SEC honors as LSU won the CFP National Championship.
After winning the National Championship he left school early to enter the NFL Draft. At the NFL Combine, he ran a 4-6, in the 40-yard dash plus an impressive 39.5” vertical and 15 reps on the weight bench.
