Future Watch: Damion Ratley Rookie Football Cards, Browns – Damion Ratley was drafted by the Cleveland Browns with the 175th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. With the chance to play with first overall selection Baker Mayfield, the Browns are building towards something special down the road.
This Texas native stayed in the same state and played at Texas A&M in college after transferring from Blinn Junior College, also in Texas. At Blinn, he had 20 touchdowns, but the bigger challenge was ahead of him at a big D1 University.
In 2016, his junior season, he started in 12 games. He started the season opener and caught two balls for 26 yards, but he picked up steam after that. That season he had 15 grabs for 200 yards with two touchdowns. Not a bad first season playing at a much higher level.
In 2017, his senior season He made 26 catches for 603 yards with six touchdowns. He had a big two-touchdown game vs. New Mexico that year. His long catch that season was one for 76 yards against Louisiana.
Having only played two seasons at a major university the combine was important to him. At his pro day, he showed a 38-inch vertical and 10 feet four-inch broad jump. He ran a 4.45-40-yard dash. At 6-2, 200 with those skills, he was expected to be drafted.
Here’s a gutsy catch ever you ever saw one!
Ratley played in 13 games for the Browns. He had six catches for 83 yards in week six against the Los Angeles Chargers. That was his high. He ended up with 13 catches for 144 yards. He never got in the end zone for his first NFL touchdown but that will come early next season I suspect.
