Future Watch: David Beckham Soccer CardsI will never forget being at the introductory press conference at (then called) the Home Depot Center when David Beckham joined the LA Galaxy of Major League Soccer. Beckham joining the Galaxy was then, still is and always will be the biggest player signing in the league’s history. And the press event was every bit as big and grandiose to fit the occasion.

There were throngs of media from all over the world that descended on Carson, CA. So massive were the numbers of media that Beckham actually went to different areas of the stadium to talk to groups of press.

I knew that day that Beckham was coming to MLS to perform and win, not just coast into retirement. He showed a fire and determination when speaking to the media about his playing future within MLS, and it is that determination that one saw every time Beckham stepped onto the pitch. He won trophies all over the soccer world, including two MLS Cups with LA.

We all know his incredible run with Manchester United and his heroics (and sometimes low moments) playing for the English national team. He also was magnificent for the likes of Real Madrid, AC Milan and finally, PSG. Beckham is the truest definition of a “superstar” in today’s sporting and pop culture world.

On the pitch he often did not get his due. Beckham worked hard for his team. He never cheated anyone with his effort. His right foot was utterly magical and he could deliver the best free kicks I have ever seen. One aspect of his game that was also world class was his passing. He could ping the ball around the pitch form anywhere to anywhere like it was on a string. His vision was also outstanding and he made players around him better.

David Beckham now is an owner of Inter Miami CF. He was and is a soccer and sporting legend. He also recently signed a trading card agreement with Panini and cards of his, including rare autographs, can now be pulled in 2020 Panini Immaculate Collection Soccer.
