Future Watch: David Montgomery Rookie Football Cards, BearsFuture Watch: David Montgomery Rookie Football Cards, BearsDavid Montgomery was drafted by the Chicago Bears with the 73rd overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. At 5-10, 222 pounds he has an ideal frame to play the position of running back. He can bust through the line and go to the house.

He played his college ball at Iowa State. In prep school, he played quarterback, but he was recruited to be a running back. As a freshman, he played in all 12 games and started the last four games. The Cyclones’ star had 563 yards on 109 carries. He scored twice and had a 5.2 yards per carry average. He was voted Honorable mention for Freshman All-America by Campus Insiders.

In 2017. He had 1,146 yards becoming the program’s 14th 1,000-yard rusher. He had six-100 yards games and 11 touchdowns. He was First-Team All-Big 12. He started all 13 games and won the Ray Scott Outstanding Offensive Skill Player Award.

In 2018, he started in 11 of 12 games. He had 1,216 yards, his second-consecutive 1,000-yard season. He’s the 8th Cyclones rusher to accomplish that multiple times. He had 13 touchdowns and led the nation in forced missed tackles. 109 defenders missed him. After all that and a few more awards he was ready for the NFL Draft.

At the NFL Combine, he ran a 4.63, 40-yard dash, 15 reps on the weight bar and 121 inches on the broad jump.

It was reported that Montgomery was the Bears training camp MVP. This rookie running back is expected to have a big role in the backfield along with Tarik Cohen. The expectations are high, but a lot of collectors may not be aware of what he can do. So now they do.
