The Blue Jays traded the talented infielder as a post-waiver trade on August 8th, 2015 to Arizona. Then, last July he was traded to Detroit in the JD Martinez deal.

Since 2015, the talented prospect has seemingly played for every team from Class-A through Triple-A for the two organizations. During that time, he’s played second, shortstop and third base. Last season was a breakthrough for him. While playing for the Double-A Erie SeaWolves, he had six home runs, 22 RBI and a .269 batting average in 175 at-bats. He played more third base over anything else and now he’s transitioning into a second baseman.

According to his MLB.com draft profile:

When the Tigers got him, he started at third, got a few games in at short and then moved to second at the end of the season. The organization liked what that looked like and had him put in work there during instructs and now thinks he has the chance to stick there if he can continue to improve his footwork, even if his plus arm looks better at third. Detroit also liked what it saw with Lugo’s bat. He makes a ton of contact, and it’s often loud, with a chance to be an above-average hitter. While he’s been hit over power in his approach, there is raw pop there, with 15-homer seasons a bar he could clear.

He has a 2017 Bowman Baseball Chrome Prospects Autographs card and that’s a good way to get him into your collection.

Here’s a look at his sweet swing:

This season, Lugo hit .366 in his first nine games for the Toledo Mud Hens. The cold weather didn’t affect him in the least. Alan Trammell has worked with him on his hitting mechanics and now they may have a star on their hands.
