Future Watch: De’Aaron Fox Rookie Basketball Cards, Kings  After dealing Demarcus Cousins at the trade deadline last year, the Sacramento Kings fully committed to a rebuild. Buoyed by a pair of top-10 picks at the 2017 NBA Draft, the team was in a perfect position to add young talent to the roster. Desperate for a guard, the Kings used their fifth overall pick on Kentucky point guard De’Aaron Fox.

The 6’3” point guard attended Cypress Lakes High School in Cypress, TX. From his sophomore to senior seasons, Fox led his team to three state championships. He was a potent scorer in high school, averaging 31.3 points per game in his senior season. As a college recruit, he was the nation’s consensus top point guard.

Fox committed to the University of Kentucky to play for renowned coach John Calipari. Immediately, he made an impact on the court for the Wildcats. In an early season game against Arizona State, Fox recorded a triple double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. This made him only the second Wildcat in history to record a triple double after Chris Mills in 1988. Fox made a big impact on the national stage when he led Kentucky to a Sweet 16 win over UCLA. In that game, he scored 39 points and outplayed star UCLA guard and second overall pick Lonzo Ball.

De’Aaron Fox has game changing speed for a point guard. He uses that speed to blow by defenders and attack the rim despite his 6’3” 170lb frame. Defensively, his quickness allows him to keep up with any point guard in the league. Heading into the draft, the only knock on Fox’s game was his lack of a consistent jump shot. Scouts say his shooting mechanics are sound, and there’s a good chance he grows into his shot like Mike Conley or John Wall.

This season, Fox has played in all seven games for the Kings, drawing one start. He currently leads the team in scoring and assists with 13.4 points and 5.0 assists per game. Despite his bench role, Fox is playing 27.6 minutes per game and getting plenty of opportunities to run the offense. There’s reason to believe he’ll creep closer towards 30 minutes or more as the season goes on. Kings fans and collectors have a lot to look forward to in the coming years.

There are already some great De’Aaron Fox autographed rookie cards in the market. They can be found in 2017 Panini Contenders Collegiate Draft Picks Basketball.
