Future Watch: Denzel Ward Rookie Football Cards, Browns – Denzel Ward was selected by the Cleveland Browns with the fourth overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. The moment that happened there were a ton of expectations placed on this talented cornerback.
Ward starred at Ohio State University. He started there in 2015 and played as a true freshman. He played seven games and started learning his craft.
In 2016, he played in 10 games and notched 23 tackles. That was a big improvement and now he was becoming a big name in college football circles.
In 2017, he had 30 solo tackles and 37 on the season. He also added two picks that year. At the end of the season he was a late scratch to play in the Cotton Bowl. He didn’t want to risk injury since he had a chance to be a top-10 pick. After the season ended, he was voted a consensus All-American, and first-team, All Big-Ten.
At the NFL Combine, he ran a 4.32, 40-yard dash, he tied with another player for the best time at the event. His vertical leap was 39 inches! The second best at the event. His broad jump was 11’4”, the best of any player at the event.
Ward was an instant starter for the Browns in 2018. In his first nine games, he already had 40 tackles, 1 forced fumble, and 3 interceptions. He also added nine pass deflections. He had three of those in Week Five against Baltimore and his best game was the opener against Pittsburgh, that ended in a tie, where he had 2 interceptions.
