Future Watch: Derrius Guice Rookie Football Cards, Redskins – Derrius Guice was selected by the Washington Redskins with the 59th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. This Louisiana native, starred there, in high school he had 21 touchdowns in one season and went from there to LSU.
In 2015, he was a true Freshman he was the backup to Leonard Fournette (Jacksonville’s 4th overall pick in 2017). He still played in 12 games and had 436 yards on 51 carries and three touchdowns.
The next season he had his first-ever start and gained 155 yards with one touchdown. His next game he ran for 252 yards, second in school history, and he had a 96-yard run for a touchdown. He had 1,387 yards and 15 touchdowns, all career highs.
In 2017, he had 1,251 yards with 11 touchdowns. His numbers had dropped slightly on the ground. He had more receiving yards and two touchdowns there but the yards per average drop from 7.6 the previous year to 5.3 in his junior season, meant he was going to drop in the draft. Injuries did affect him and still he had a 276-yard game, and that gave him three career games of 250 yards or more, an SEC record.
He explains his injuries here:
This guy has a lot of talent and should have an immediate impact with the Redskins. The fans already love him, he takes the time to sign autographs, invited many of them to the movies and he did well during OTA’s.
Guice will be a player to watch this preseason. If he does well, he could be in line for quite a few carries in the nation’s capitol.
