After he was signed he did pitch four scoreless innings of rookie ball and called it a year. 2015 would be a big year for this potential phenom as a member of the Fort Wayne TinCaps. He pitched to a 5-8 record with a 2.99 ERA. He had 120 strikeouts in just 105 1/3 innings. Superior power numbers.

In 2016 he started out the year in A-ball and ended the season with the Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas. He had 13 strikeouts in 10 2/3 innings. That was another big jump for him.

He was back in El Paso in 2017. He was 3-2 with a 3.23 ERA. He struck out 50 in 39 innings. That got him a promotion to the big club.

With the San Diego Padres he made 21 starts posting a 7-8 record. In 114 1/3 innings he struck out 139 batters. Even though is ERA was high at 4.57 opponents only hit .210 against him.

This offseason was a big one and there was a lot of buzz for the 25-year-old Dominican. Some outlets felt he had the makings of an ace. Those guys don’t come around very often.

During Spring Training, the team had him slated as the #2 starter for them. He’d made it. He then hit the DL on his final start of the spring in late March. It was announced a few weeks later that he had a torn UCL and would need season-ending elbow surgery.

He has a 2017 Bowman Baseball Chrome Prospects Autographs card and that’s a good way to get him into your collection

Here’s a look at him in action:

Buy low and when he comes back next season, and he will, the organization expects him to get back to fanning hitters.
