Future Watch: Drake Batherson Rookie Hockey Cards, Senators – Drake Batherson was drafted 121st overall by the Ottawa Senators in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. Was this selection a steal or a reach?
2015-16 was a big year for this prospect. He played in 10 games for the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles. It took him a while to be able to play in the “Q” and that was his springboard. He got two points.
In 2016-17 he scored 58 points in 61 games. The winger had 22 goals and was a +16. The postseason was great for him, he notched 12 points and seven goals in 11 games.
In 2017-18 he started the season in Cape Breton. He wore the “A” and his scoring touch was intact netting goals in 24 games. His 39 points made him trade bait and he was dealt to the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada. They had him were the “A” there too and his 12 goals and 38 points in 27 games was amazing. In 22 playoff games, he potted 13 goals and 33 points. He had the most playoff goals and assists in the league that year. During the year he represented Team Canada in the U20 World Junior Championship where he got seven goals in seven games! That was a nice surprise for the Senators and the player took home a gold medal as a result.
In 2018-19 he started the year off in Belleville playing in the AHL. Over the course of the season, he managed 22 goals and 62 points in 59 games. What a rookie season!
During that season he was called up to the big club. In 20 games there he got nine points. Not bad for a 2017 pick who just turned 21 in April.
Here’s a look at his first NHL goal:
