Future Watch: Erling Braut Håland Soccer Cards, Borussia Dortmund – One of the hardest players to find in world football is the one who can score consistently up front. Borussia Dortmund must feel they have surely found one in their recent move to transfer in Erling Haaland from Red Bull Salzburg in January.
The 19-year-old Norwegian striker is a pure finisher. And he has paid immediate dividends for Dortmund in front of goal. So far, he has bagged seven goals in just four appearances.
And in case you think he might just be on a hot streak or this recent scoring binge is a fluke, consider that before his transfer to Germany, Haaland had slotted home 16 goals in 14 games in the Austrian Bundesliga and eight more Champions League goals in six games for good measure.
Haaland is the son of former Norwegian international Alf-Inge Haaland. Last summer at the U20 World Cup, the younger Haaland bagged nine goals in one game (a 12-0 thrashing of Honduras).
At first glance, Haaland might not look like the picture perfect striker. He is taller than most at 6’4” and is very strong. But he has a deft first touch in tight space and can move with the football on either foot through defenders. He has a nose for goal and a clinically accurate shot with the right or left as well. The young phenom reads defenses and situations well beyond his years on the pitch and plays fearlessly like a striker should. At the highest levels, you must be able to bury chances, even half-chances, and already Haaland has taken advantage of his opportunities for the Black and Yellows.
Haaland will surely be looked at by every other big club throughout the world in 2020 and beyond. He has the makeup to perform on the highest stage and score goals for anyone.
