Future Watch: Filip Zadina Rookie Hockey Cards, Red Wings

Future Watch: Filip Zadina Rookie Hockey Cards, Red WingsFuture Watch: Filip Zadina Rookie Hockey Cards, Red WingsFilip Zadina was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings with the sixth overall pick in the 2018 NHL Draft. The Czech prospect has a ton of offensive ability.

Before he came to North America, he put up a lot of points at various levels in the Czech league. He was averaging over 1.5 points per game one season. In the U18s, he put up five points in five points winning a gold medal in the Ivan Hlinka tournament.

Then he joined the Halifax Mooseheads in 2017-18. During that season he put up 44 goals and 82 points in 57 games. He had five goals and 12 points in seven playoff games. During that season he played for his country in the U20 World Junior Championship and he had seven goals and eight points in seven games. He was an all-star in that tournament, and he won the Mike Bossy Award in the QMJHL as the best rookie.

Post-draft, the Red Wings gave him a nine-game look-see and he only scored three points, so they sent him to the AHL. With the Grand Rapids Griffins, he learned to round out his game and he still had a nice rookie season scoring 16 goals and producing 19 assists in 59 games. In the playoffs, he had two goals and three points in five games. That was a solid first year.

Collectors can get his rookie card in 2019-20 Upper Deck MVP Hockey and O-Pee-Chee and soon virtually every other set in the calendar year. He did have a card in 2018-19 Upper Deck AHL as well.

Here’s a look at his great skating, hands and elite shot:

Zadina should make the Red Wings starting roster at the age of 19. He’s used to playing NHL style hockey now and he’s physically stronger. This could be a big year for him.
