Future Watch: Gabe Vilardi Hockey Cards, Los Angeles Kings – Gabe Vilardi was drafted by the Los Angeles Kings with the 11th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft. The 6-3 center is the type of player every team in the league would like on their roster.
Vilardi has a lot of tools and plays a strong offensive game. The Windsor Spitfires found that out in 2015-16. In 62 games, Vilardi scored 17 goals and had 21 helpers, and added four points in five playoff games. In 2016-17, he potted 29 goals and had 61 points in total, despite only playing in 49 regular season games. He was available for some of the playoffs and had two goals and six points in seven games, including the Memorial Cup which the Spitfires won. Vilardi was voted to the Memorial Cup All-Star team as well.
In January 2018, the Kingston Frontenacs acquired Vilardi in a trade while the youngster was on the sidelines with a back injury. He was healthy after the trade and scored 22 goals and had 36 assists in just 32 games. In 16 playoff games, he had 11 goals and 11 assists and was named a third-team OHL All-Star.
After Kings’ training camp in 2018, his back injury flared up again, and Vilardi was put on injured reserve and eventually sent back to Kingston. He missed the entire 2018-19 regular season, but returned to action for the AHL playoffs with the Ontario Reign, recording an assist in four games.
In 2019-20, Vilardi started in the AHL where he played in 32 games, tallying nine goals and 25 points. Then he was called up to the Kings in February and stayed until COVID-19 forced the NHL to pause the season. He did get in ten games, and had three goals and four assists.
