Future Watch: Gavin Lux, Rookie Baseball Cards, Dodgers – Gavin Lux was selected 20th overall by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 2016 MLB Amateur Draft. This talented first rounder is a 6′-2″, 190-pound shortstop.

He hails from Kenosha, Wisconsin and starred at Indian Trail High School. He has the distinction of being the first prep player from Wisconsin to be chosen in the first round of the draft in 37 years!

This young phenom hit .560 in his senior year. He’s a left-handed hitter who has some pop and nowadays a lot of major league ballparks favor lefty hitters.

In 2016, Lux played for two teams in rookie ball. He got in 56 games hitting 13 doubles, 5 triples while driving in 21. He stole a few bases without being caught and he walked an impressive 28 times in 223 at-bats. His average was .296 and that likely earned him a promotion coming into the 2017 campaign.

Gavin Lux has autographed cards in both 2016 Bowman Draft and 2016 Bowman’s Best.

Lux’s tools improved significantly during his senior season at Indian Trail Academy (Kenosha, Wis.). After projecting as more of an offensive second baseman entering the year, he got faster and stronger and showed a better arm. He smoothed out a hitch in his left-handed swing, which has the bat speed and leverage to translate into 15 homers per year. ETA 2020.

Lux is the Dodgers shortstop of the future. The very talented Corey Seager is expected to move to third base when Lux is ready to make the jump, that’s how much the Dodgers think of him.
