Future Watch: Jake Evans Hockey Cards, Montreal Canadiens – Jake Evans was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the seventh round of the 2014 NHL Draft. As the 207th pick of 210, this talented center could be the definition of a hobby sleeper.

In 2014-15, Evans started at the University of Notre Dame and as a freshman, he had seven goals and 17 points in 41 games. One year later, his numbers jumped to 33 points in 37 games.

In 2016-17, Evans saw another leap as he tallied 13 goals and 42 points in 40 games. He was involved in some big games that season including contributing two assists in Notre Dame’s 3-2 comeback win over Minnesota in the first round of the NCAA Championship. Later, he assisted on the game-tying goal that led to a 3-2 OT win against U Mass Lowell to send the Irish to the Frozen Four.

Evans was named team captain for his senior year and responded by potting 13 goals and 46 points (which led the Irish) in 40 games. After reaching the Frozen Four again, Evans broke a 3-3 tie with a goal against Michigan to send Notre Dame to the National Championship game. He was voted a Big 10 Defensive Player of the Year Finalist, Hobey Baker Fan Vote Nominee and a Senior Class Award Winner.

In 2018-19, as an AHL rookie with the Laval Rocket, the pivot scored 13 goals and had 32 helpers in 67 games. Evans returned to Laval to start the 2019-20 season and led the team in scoring until he was called up to the Canadiens on February 6th. He scored his first NHL goal in his third NHL game.

Collectors can find Evans’ first rookie card in 2020-21 Upper Deck MVP and can pick up his AHL cards from the 2018-19 and 2019-20 Upper Deck AHL products.

Evans made the Habs return to play roster and got into playoff games where he scored one point in six games. He will be a regular next year and could break out big time.
