Future Watch: Jake Oettinger Hockey Cards, Dallas Stars – Jake Oettinger was drafted by the Dallas Stars with the 26th overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft. He grew up in Lakeville, Minnesota. He posted a .931 save percentage at Lakeville North High School. From there, he was ready for a bigger challenge.

In 2014-15, Oettinger was a part of the National Team Development Program. Already 6-4, Oettinger had a 25-8 record with a .908 save percentage. After one more season with the program, Oettinger moved to Boston University, and during his rookie campaign, he left to play for Team USA in the U20 World Junior Championship and was a part of a gold medal winning team. Despite the time off, Oettinger was voted to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team as well as Second All-Star Team. One year later, Oettinger was the Hockey East Tournament MVP while his team captured the tournament championship.

In 2018-19, Oettinger left college hockey as one of the best in the nation and sporting a 0.926 save percentage. He turned pro and appeared in the AHL with the Texas Stars, posting a 3-3-1 record. 

2019-20 was an odd year but Oettinger never missed a beat. He played 38 games for the Texas Stars and he had a .917 save percentage. When hockey resumed, he was the third goalie on a hard-working Dallas Stars team and appeared in two games. One was in the Stanley Cup Finals, in relief, and he made all three saves in over 19 minutes

Oettinger has been known to give back to the community, and he was named IOA/American Specialty AHL Man of the Year award recipient for his outstanding contributions to the Central Texas community in 2019-20. At the beginning of the season, the netminder had a photoshoot with some adoptable dogs and cats, and that was placed in a calendar to raise funds for the Texas Humane Heroes no-kill animal shelter. He also volunteered at the local hospital, Cedar Park Regional Medical Center, and helped raise $175,000 through the Texas Stars Foundation’s charitable efforts.
