Future Watch: Jakob Chychren Rookie Hockey Cards, Coyotes – Jakob Chychrun is a can’t miss NHL defenseman who is currently playing for the Arizona Coyotes. He was selected 16th overall in the 2016 NHL Draft. Earlier in the year, he was projected as a Top 10 pick but inexplicably he slipped and that’s when a good trade happened. Originally the Coyotes had the 20th overall selection. When the Detroit Red Wings called them and proposed trading Pavel Datsyuk’s contract to Arizona the bounty was their first round pick. Arizona included Joe Vitale in that trade to Detroit but this move may help shape the Coyotes blueline for the next decade or so.

Chychrun grew up in Boca Raton Florida, a fan of the local Panthers. His father, Jeff, also a defenseman, played in 262 NHL games, many of them with the Philadelphia Flyers in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Dad was 6′-4″, son is 6′-2″, 205 pounds of solid muscle. To say Jakob is physically fit is an understatement. He’s capable of logging huge minutes, dishing out physical punishment and could near 45-50 points a season when he’s in his prime.

It’s very rare that an 18 year old cracks the NHL at all. He’s done that and then some. He’s already one of the most important defenseman on the team. He’s a great skater who possesses a bomb of a shot. In two years with the Sarnia Sting he had double digit goals in both seasons. This prospect has an outside chance to be in the final Calder Trophy voting if he keeps it up.

Here’s a look at his first NHL goal:

Jakob Chychrun has some cards in Leaf Hockey products but soon will have his first NHL licensed rookie in 2016-17 Upper Deck Series 1 Hockey. That Young Guns card will be a hot property. This player and his card’s stock will continue to rise. You can take that to the bank.
