Future Watch: James Morgan Football Cards, New York Jets – James Morgan was selected by the New York Jets in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft. A lot of outlets called this quarterback a sleeper pick.

Morgan played his high school football at Ashwaubenon High School in Wisconsin. After that, he committed to Bowling Green. He redshirted his first season there and had two good years afterward. In 18 games, Morgan had total passing for 3,342 yards with 25 touchdowns against 22 interceptions.

Morgan left Bowling Green for Florida International after the 2017 season. As the story goes, he emailed 20 schools hoping he would have his choice of schools to transfer to; only FIU cornerbacks’ coach, Bryn Renner answered the e-mail. Because this prospect finished up a pre-law degree in three years at Bowling Green, he was eligible to play for FIU right away as a graduate transfer.

Morgan played for FIU in 2018 and 2019. Across 24 games, Morgan threw for 5,312 yards and 40 touchdowns against 12 interceptions. After his season ended, he played in the East-West Shrine Bowl. In that game, showcasing his talent, Morgan threw a touchdown that helped pace the East to victory.

At the NFL Combine the 6’4″, 229-lb quarterback ran a 4.89 in the 40-yard dash and had a 29.0 vertical leap.

The Jets have Sam Darnold, however, who will be looking for a big contract next year. If Morgan is hanging around and possibly gets in a game and looks good, he could be the Jets next quarterback.
