Future Watch: Jharel Cotton Rookie Baseball Cards, A'sFuture Watch: Jharel Cotton Rookie Baseball Cards, Dodgers – Jharel Cotton is a pitcher who started in the Los Angeles Dodgers system when he was drafted in the 20th round of the 2012 MLB Amateur Draft. After four long years in the minor leagues the 5′-11″ right-hander is now 24.

Born in St. Thomas of the U.S. Virgin Islands; this year he started off in AAA playing for the Oklahoma City Dodgers. In 22 games he was 8-5 with just under 100 innings under his belt. On August 1st things changed for the career Dodger. He was traded to the Oakland A’s and reported to Nashville.

Since the trade he’s 2-1 with a 1.74 ERA and 21 strikeouts in 20.2 innings. Clearly the A’s saw something in him and now he’s excelling.

Having just been named the Pacific Coast League  pitcher of the week, he managed to pitch a perfect game! He managed the leagues first 9-inning perfect game since 1903. He also had 12 strikeouts in another start.

Jharel Cotton has a Bowman Chrome Prospect Autograph card in 2016 Bowman Baseball, card number CPA-JC. Collectors may be getting on his bandwagon a bit late but it seems like it’s just in time to see him perform at his best.

His local baseball coach suggested that then 16-year-old play ball high school ball in the United States so he played in Virginia. His path is unusual but it’s been effective.

According to his MLB.com draft profile:

Cotton got on a roll when his fastball jumped up from 88-91 mph to 92-95. He shows more aptitude for throwing a changeup than he does spinning his curveball. He throws strikes but needs to a better job of keeping the ball down in the zone. ETA 2017.

His team is playoff bound and he has his sights set on finishing off the season strong and then maybe getting a September promotion to Oakland.
