Future Watch: Joe Veleno Prospect Profile & Hockey Cards –  Joseph Veleno is a very talented center who is eligible for the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. The French-Canadian talent was the first overall pick by the Saint John Sea Dogs in the 2015 QMJHL Entry Draft.

He had a very successful debut season scoring 43 points in 62 games with 13 goals. At just 16-years old, he is already 6′, 181 pounds, this future star has the size and he’s almost at the ideal weight. He may still grow and that could really make him a hot property when he’s NHL Draft eligible.

Veleno really ramped up his play in the playoffs. He potted six goals and had 7 points in 17 games. To say his first season was a success is an understatement.

Here’s a look at his play:

He has terrific vision, great puck pursuit and an extra gear to get around defenders to help set up teammates with sharp passes. He was granted exceptional status so he could play at the age of 15. He is only the fifth player to have ever achieve that, and the first-ever from Quebec. He has good company in Connor McDavid, John Tavares and Aaron Ekblad. Sean Day is the one who many say didn’t deserve the status. I’d say Veleno definitely deserved it and belongs in the league.

At this age, most hockey players don’t get a trading card from a major manufacturer but Veleno is a bit different. Leaf Trading Cards signed him to a deal that includes autographed cards. The yet to be released, 2016 Leaf Genesis will have autographed memorabilia cards of this big time prospect. Veleno also has several cards in 2016 Leaf Metal Hockey. In addition, Veleno will be featured in next week’s release (Friday, June 17th) of 2015-16 Leaf/ITG Heroes & Prospects Hockey.

Collectors win as they get in on the ground floor of a budding star. He has a few years to build a great resume and this past season was a great start to that.
