Future Watch: Jonathan Taylor , Indianapolis Colts – Jonathan Taylor was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts with the 41st overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He’s a native of Salem, New Jersey and this talented running back would show the collegiate world he was going to get a boatload of accolades down the line.

At Salem High School, Taylor followed in the athletic footsteps of his dad, Jonathan James, who was a terrific basketball player at San Francisco State in the ’80s. As a senior, Taylor set a New Jersey record with 2,815 yards, a mark formerly held by Corey Clement (now of the Philadelphia Eagles). Taylor won the Jim Henry Award for being the best high school athlete in the New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware area.

Taylor developed his incredible speed while on his high school track team. This skill was shown off during his first football game with the University of Wisconsin, where he rushed for 87 yards and a touchdown. By the seventh game of his first campaign, Taylor had 1,000 yards and later broke Adrian Peterson’s freshman rushing record for the NCAA. He finished the season as the AP Big 10 Newcomer of the Year and was named a Consensus First Team All-Big 10 Team pick.

In the second game of his sophomore year (2018), against New Mexico, Taylor gained a career-high 253 yards and three touchdowns in a win. He was named the Doak Walker Award winner (best running back in college football) that year and repeated in 2019. He also won the Pinstripe Bowl MVP award in 2018 with a 205-yard performance and a touchdown

After his junior season in 2019, Taylor entered the NFL Draft. At the NFL Combine in Indianapolis, he ran a 4.39 in the 40 and had a 10’ 3” broad jump. Naturally, the Colts took notice.

If all goes well, Taylor will finish the year with 1,000 rushing yards (he currently has 842 on the season),making the Colts a dangerous team in the playoffs.

Here’s Taylor showing his running and receiving capabilities during his incredible NFL rookie campaign:
