Future Watch: Jorge Ona Rookie Baseball Cards, PadresJorge Ona was signed by the San Diego Padres in 2016 as an international free agent. At 6-1, 220 pounds the Padres hope they have a star right fielder on their hands.

In the Pan-American championships in 2016, he made some headlines hitting .636 with four home runs in eight games.

He played in Class-A in 2017 and slugged eleven homers while driving in 64. He had 18 doubles, eight steals and had 54 runs scored to go along with a respectable .277 batting average. He had 415 important at-bats and that will help him this spring.

Some like to nitpick about where he’ll fit into the Padres future outfield. That will be decided when his numbers are so good that he’ll find a spot out there. That won’t be this season, but that day will come for the 21-year-old.

According to his MLB.com draft profile:

A physical specimen, Ona, ranked No. 8 on MLB.com’s list of the Top 30 international prospects, stands out on the field for his muscular and projectable body. At the plate, the right-handed hitter combines strength and bat speed to generate easy power, and he’s shown the ability to drive the ball across the entire field. Ona can play all three outfield positions and has shown good instincts. However, with speed that’s a tick below average and a strong arm, he seemingly is best suited for a corner spot. Ona might be years away from reaching the Major Leagues, but he has all the ingredients needed to become a prototypical right fielder at the highest level. ETA 2021

He has a 2017 Bowman Chrome Prospects Autographs card. That’s a good way to get him into your collection.

Here’s a look at his power:

Collectors shouldn’t sleep on this guy. In San Diego he won’t get a lot of press to start but he won’t be understated for much longer.
