Future Watch: Julien Gauthier Rookie Hockey Cards, Rangers –  Julien Gauthier was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes with the 21st overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft. At 6-4, 230 pounds, he has speed, a good shot, a physical edge, all he needed was some time to develop as bigger players tend to need  on average.

He broke in with the Val d’Or Foreurs in 2013-14, he scored eight goals and got 29 points in 62 games. He got 24 games of playoff experience as well scoring seven points. His team won the QMJHL championship that year and he was off and running.

In 2014-15, he scored 38 goals and had 73 points in 68 games. He added 10 points in 17 playoff games as well. With that size he was starting to dominate the league.

In 2015-16, he didn’t play a full season and still got 41 goals and 57 points in 54 games. He had a better playoff with five points in six games.

Over the next two years he would represent Team Canada twice in the U20 World Junior Championship getting five points and nine goals in 12 games. He did get a Silver Medal in 2016-17, as well as another QMJHL Championship.

For 2017-18, and ’18-19, he was strictly in the AHL. He put up 66 points in 140 games. 43 of them were goals so he was coming along nicely, and he ended up having a solid playoffs with five goals and eight points in 17 games and he became a Calder Cup Champion with the Charlotte Checkers. But he still wasn’t breaking through with Carolina.

In 2019-20, Carolina gave him five games and then he played the rest in the AHL with 26 goals in 44 games. When the Hurricanes made a trade with the New York Rangers, Gauthier was a big part of the deal. He played in New York and may play for the Rangers in the playoffs if the NHL resumes. During the 17 games he played he tallied three assits.

Here’s a story on him:

Collectors can find Julien Gauthier’s 2019-20 Young Guns Rookie Card in Upper Deck Series 2 Hockey.  He also has NHL licensed rookie cards in other 2019-20 Upper Deck products including SP Authentic, SP Game-Used and O-Pee-Chee Platinum, to name a few.
