Khalil Lee was drafted by the Kansas City Royals in the third round of the 2016 MLB Entry Draft. This Newark, Delaware native is a talented center fielder who is moving up the ladder in the Royals organization.
In 2016, he played in Rookie Ball for the AZL Royals. In 182 at-bats he had nine doubles, six triples, six homers, and 29 RBI. He hit .269 and had eight steals. He was off and running.
In 2017, he played for the Lexington Legends in A-ball. In 451 at-bats he had 24 doubles, six triples, 17 homers and 61 RBI with 20 steals. He was making a name for himself.
In 2018, he was playing for his hometown, Wilmington Blue Rocks in advanced A-ball. In 244 at-bats he had 13 doubles, four triples, four homers, 41 RBI and 14 steals with a .270 average. Those numbers got him promoted to Double-A.
In Double-A he played for the Northwest Arkansas Naturals. In his first 102 at-bats, he had five doubles, two homers, 10 RBI and two steals while hitting .245. His on-base percentage was .330 so he was still fairly productive.

If he can make some adjustments at the plate, Lee could have solid or better tools across the board. Though he’s not physically imposing at 5-foot-10, the bat speed and loft in his left-handed swing give him surprising raw power. He has some feel to hit and a willingness to work counts, though he needs to tone down his aggressiveness after fanning a SAL-high 171 times last year. ETA 2020.
He has a 2017 Bowman Baseball Chrome Prospects Autographs card and that’s a good way to get him into your collection.
Lee has speed, some power and the ability to fill out a box score each game. Collectors might want to keep a close eye on this emerging talent.
