Leody Taveras was signed by the Texas Rangers as an international free agent in 2015, he was just 16 at the time.

In 2016, he played in the Dominican Summer League hitting .385 with nine RBI in 11 games. Later that season he went from Rookie Ball to Short-A. Combined he had 33 RBI in 73 games with 18 steals and a .271 batting average.

The 6-1, 190 pound center fielder was making a name for himself heading into the 2017 season. He played in High-A for the Hickory Crawdads. That season he hit 20 doubles, 7 triples, 8 homers, and 50 RBI. He added 20 steals. Something his dad, Willy, did a lot of in a seven-year career in major league baseball.

According to his MLB.com draft profile:Future Watch: Leody Taveras Rookie Baseball Cards, Rangers

Taveras is a switch-hitter with a good swing from both sides of the plate — the consensus is that he’s better as a left-handed hitter — and he already displays command of the strike zone and the ability to recognize pitches. Add in his plus speed and he should have little difficulty hitting for average. With his easy bat speed and projectable strength, he also could grow into at least average power once he matures physically. ETA 2020.

In 2018, he finished out the year in Advanced-A playing for the Down East Wood Ducks. In 521 at-bats he hit 5 home runs, drove in 48. He had 19 steals and 16 doubles. In 132 games he scored 65 runs.

He has a 2017 Bowman Baseball Chrome Prospects Autographs card and that’s a good way to get him into your collection.

Taveras will get to the big leagues. He will be a player who checks off a lot of boxes every night. Collectors should like his bloodline and collect accordingly. He will remain as the Rangers top prospect until he arrives.
